Eos 2 is a massive update our Eos algorithmic reverb. With an all-new entirely procedural GUI (featuring full Retina and Windows HiRes compatibility), a new cross-platform preset mechanism, a new reverb algorithm, the addition of crossover controls, the addition of VST3 versions, and a ground-up rebuild for future-proofing, Eos 2 is a worthy successor to our all-time best-plugin. Eos consists of four high-quality custom-designed reverb algorithms, made with the modern production environment in mind. Three different plate simulators and our own Superhall algorithm give you a broad palette of reverb, and the easy-to-understand interface makes adjusting the algorithms to suit your track incredibly simple. Want a traditional dark plate reverb? Eos can do that. How about a short, dense room sound for your drum buss? Not a problem.     Eos includes four high-quality, studio grade custom-designed reverb algorithms: Three different plate simulators and the Superhall algorithm for expansive dense and rich reverbs with gentle modulation.
  • Flexible Sound Shaping
    Eos’ reverb parameters (pre-delay, diffusion/density, size, attack and decay), offer precise control over the plugin’s spatial characteristics.
  • Modulation
    Rate and depth controls apply time-varying changes to the delay lines within the reverberators, making the effect sound more realistic when used gently and otherworldly at extreme settings.
  • Filtering and Frequency Shaping
    On top of a pair of simple EQ filters (low cut and high cut) at the reverberators’ inputs, Eos allows the user to adjust the way in which high and low frequencies decay, altering the tonal quality of the reverb tail.
  • Infinite Decay
    The reverberators’ decay time can be set to infinity, freezing any input signal, somewhat like a looped sample. A setting suited to creating unusual effects, providing ample sound design possibilities.
  • Mix and Lock
    Adjust the balance between the dry input and the effect signal. With the LOCK button engaged, the Mix parameter will not change when loading presets.
  • Mono In, Stereo Out
    Eos can be used in a mono-in/stereo-out or stereo-in/stereo-out context. It creates a stereo reverb output even if the input signal is mono.
  • Cross-Platform Preset Format
    Eos utilizes an XML-based preset manager. Work between multiple systems without troubles, make a preset on your desktop machine and paste it to the iOS version with Handoff, easily share your creations with your friends, or make a preset bundle to sell.
  • Fully Resizable Hi-Dpi/Retina GUI
    Eos 2’s vector-based GUI is resolution-agnostic, and displays the same on every system and resolution. Easily resize the UI (per instance) to match your visual needs, from postage stamp to poster-sized.

Protoverb: prototype reverb

A natural sounding reverb based on the concept of a room simulator. Protoverb is an experimental researchware plug-in, developed to aid our research. Download and use it for free.

Feel it in the air
What is Protoverb?
Protoverb is an experimental room simulator reverb. Most algorithmic reverbs try to avoid resonances or model the reflections of sound from a room’s walls. Protoverb does the opposite. It builds up as many room resonances as possible, modelling the body of air in the room. No need to modulate or colour the signal. The result is a very natural sounding reverberation with interesting characteristics:
• Notes held for a longer time tend to build up resonance, as if the air takes a while to get excited
• Multiple instruments remain distinct, without disappearing in a wash
• When you play a short melody, the room seems to repeat a ghost echo of that melody

Random
The text box at the bottom of Protoverb’s interface contains a text string made up of two random parts. The first half dictates the network structure, strategies for spatial layout and distribution of delay taps, strategies for finding useful delay lengths and so on. The second half is a seed for a pseudo-random number generator—used to set various parameters such as the average delay length, which prime number to choose (if any) etcetera.

Sound generation
Triple Cheese avoids classic synthesis techniques—no subtractive, frequency modulation (FM) or additive synthesis. Rather, it employs various types of comb filter, often in series, to generate and modify sound. Think of the comb filters as very short chromatically tuned delays. Three modules are arranged in series and either generate their own sound, or process the output of the previous module. The features for each module can result in sounds that might seem a little “cheesy” or retro (think early 1980s digital synths). But when pushed, you will find Triple Cheese creates some surprisingly lush sounds.

Extra cheese
For extra flavour, Triple Cheese comes with a choice of delay-based effects. Although basic, the essentials are covered: chorus, flanger, phaser, delay, or reverb. A special LFO with speed and depth controls can be used to give your sound extra movement and warmth. Another way to add flavour: parameter modulation. Many of the key parameters in Triple Cheese can be modulated from a variety of sources: Select one of the classic performance controls (modwheel, velocity, pressure, key follow etc.) or an automatic modulation source (envelope, LFO or Vibrator).

Bitwig Studio 1 was hello, world! Version 2 brought program-wide modulators and CV integration. Version 3 saw the birth of The Grid, our modular sound-design environment. And for version 4, new musical timelines have arrived. This means comping for audio clips, both in the Clip Launcher and the Arranger. A new set of Operators, for changing the chance, recurrence, and more of any note or audio event. Random Spread for any expression point (like per-note pitch, or audio panning) with perfect control. And Native Apple Silicon support on Mac, even allowing Intel and ARM plug-ins to work side-by-side. Welcome to Bitwig Studio 4...

Audio Comping, Anywhere the Clip Goes
Since the invention of studio recording, our task has been to create the perfect performance. Comping allows you to combine the best parts of many takes, and Bitwig Studio provides this and more.

Each take is given its own color so from the first swipe of a take lane, the sources are clear. To swap in a different take, just tap it. Then press the up or down arrow to cycle thru the other takes. From the composite lane, move a boundary by clicking, adjust gain by dragging, or fix timing by sliding.

Since we have a Launcher and an Arranger, comping lives inside the audio clip. So if you are composing in the Launcher, just click to enable comp recording right there. Or just drag clips in either direction with your takes safely inside. Even open the layered editor when multiple comps belong together. Comping works wherever you are, now and later.

And since all good techniques deserve a new trick, right-click any audio clip to Fold To Takes. If you ask for an eight-bar comp, the entire clip will be spooled into take lanes, and the comping can begin. Or just drag audio in to add a new take lane. The stranger the sources, the newer the result.

DIVA – Dinosaur Impersonating Virtual Analogue Synthesizer. The oscillators, filters and envelopes closely model components found in some of the great monophonic and polyphonic synthesizers of yesteryear. Modules can be mixed and matched so you can build hybrids, but what sets DIVA apart is the sheer authenticity of the analogue sound. This comes at the cost of quite a high CPU-hit, but we think it was worth it: Diva is the first native software synth that applies methods from industrial circuit simulators (e.g. PSpice) in realtime. The behaviour of zero-delay-feedback filters when pushed to the limit clearly demonstrates the advantages of this groundbreaking approach.
